6 thành ngữ IELTS SPEAKING hay

Trong phần thi IELTS SPEAKING sẽ có rất nhiều cách các bạn dùng để gây ấn tượng với Giám khảo, thông qua bài viết này Trung tâm AMA gửi đến cho các bạn một vài thành ngữ hay có thể dùng cho phần thi Speaking của các bạn:

Full of beans: Tràn trề sức sống

+ A full of  beans: nghĩa bóng là đầy năng lực, hăng hái, sôi nổi.

Ex:

– Joe was so tired and worn out he looked awful! the his wife made him take two weeks off from work. And when he got back, he was FULL OF BEANS – full of fresh energy and looking like himself again.

-He may be getting  old but he’s still full of beans

-I really enjoy being with my best friend because he is always full of beans

-In order not to miss the dawn I woke up very early in the morning feeling full of beans and walked to the beach

To have no time for something/ To do something: không có thời gian cho cái gì/để làm gì

Ex:

-Sometime, I have no time for lunch or doing anything else except reports

To beat about the bush: nói loanh quanh, nói vòng vo tam quốc, không đi thẳng vào vấn đề

+Khi bạn “beat about the bush” (khua quanh bụi cây), có nghĩa là bạn tránh trả lời một câu hỏi, lãng phí thời gian hay tránh nói về vấn đề quan trọng. Cụm từ này xuất phát từ việc săn bắt chim, khi người đi săn khua bụi cau để chim bay lên và người khác chụp con mồi bằng lưới. Vì vậy, “beat about the bush” là đoạn dạo đầu cho sự kiện chính, ở đây ý chỉ là bắt được chim.

+Trái nghĩa cụm từ “beat about the bush” là “cut to the chase” là đi thẳng vào vấn đề chính, bỏ qua lời mở đầu.

Ex:

-Let’s stop beating about the bush and tell me what you want

-Don’t waste my time. Please stop beating about the bush and tell me what you want

-She motivates me strengthen my skills, and never beats about the bush when it comes to criticism

-Brother Rutherford certainly did not beat about the bush

The apple of one’s eye: người, vật mà ai đó rất yêu quý

+Câu thành ngữ này được biết đên vào đầu thế kỷ thứ 9, với ý nghĩa đồ quý của ai đó, người quý báu, báu vật của ai đó

Ex:

-Ben was always the apple of his father’s eye.

-You should never touch her laptop. It’s always the apple of her eye.

-His granddaughter is the apple of his eye.

Keep an eye on someone/something: để mắt tới, trông giữ, canh giữ ai đó

Ex:

-Keep an eye on my suitcase while I buy my ticket, please

-Can you keep an eye on the baby for 5 minute? I need to go to the restroom

-Be careful what you do today. I’ll be keeping an eye on you.

-About our relationship, as a student with little experience in tourism industry, it is lucky for me to have a talented mentor at work…who keeps an eye on my professional training as well as daily life matters

Get the hang of something: nắm được, sử dụng được, hiểu được.

Học cách sử dụng thuần thục một loại máy móc/công cụ nào đó; học cách làm một điều gì đó đòi hỏi kỹ năng thông qua tập luyện.

Ex:

-A computer is something very strange to this old woman but she soon gets tha hand of it

-“Don’t worry, you’ll get the hand of it”

-“You’ll get the hang of it son”
